Irish people split 50/50 on whether we should invite Trump to Ireland

The poll found a big split down gender lines, with 64% of women saying they would not like Trump to be invited to Ireland.

IRISH PEOPLE ARE split down the middle when it comes to whether we should invite US president-elect Donald Trump to Ireland.

A new Ireland Thinks/Irish Daily Mail poll found that 50% of Irish people would not want the Government to extend an interview to Trump to come to Ireland, while 50% would (when undecideds are taken out of the equation).

The specific question asked was:

Should the Government invite President Elect Donald Trump to Ireland?

The poll found a big split down gender lines, with 64% of women saying they would not like Trump to be invited to Ireland. This compares to 64% of men who think the US president-elect should be invited here.

The poll found that supporters of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Independents were more likely to support an invitation being extended to Trump.

At a press conference yesterday Trump faced some tough questions from journalists over a dossier that contained unsubstantiated claims he had been compromised by Russian intelligence agencies.

It was also revealed that the dossier had been compiled by an ex-British MI6 spy.

Trump hit out at the media during and following the press conference, calling “fake news” on the dossier and criticising intelligence agencies for its leak.
